Shaders is now open source

It's time to ship magic ✨

Starting today, the Shaders rendering engine, all shader components, and framework bindings are open source under the MIT license.

Why go open-source?

The original vision for Shaders was simple: make creative shader effects accessible to design engineers without requiring them to become graphics programmers.

AI is making it easier than ever to create shaders, and we think that makes an open foundation more valuable, not less. So we’re opening up the core of Shaders (our components, primitives, and render engine) for everyone to use, extend, and build on. Instead of starting from raw shader code, you and your agents can build on production-tested components and an extensively optimized WebGPU runtime designed for building stunning web experiences.

Shaders Pro will continue to be the fastest way to discover, customize, and ship polished WebGPU effects. But the foundation is now open, and we’re excited to see what you build with it.

What this means for you

  • Use Shaders components anywhere. That includes both personal and commercial client work, SaaS products, internal tools, etc. No need for a license.
  • Export code from the design editor, for free. Design a shader, ship it. No limits.
  • Write your own components (experimental). The same defineShader language we use to build every component in the library is now public and documented. Don't see a component or prop that you need? Now you can build a new one for your own purposes or to submit as a PR back to us. Contributions are welcome.

What happens to Pro

Pro remains the fastest way to ship magic to your projects. If you have a Pro subscription, you keep everything you have today:

  • 1,000+ Pro presets. The curated library, ready to drop into a project.
  • 55+ pre-built sections. Ready-to-use, install with a single prompt.
  • Render video and images. High quality, no watermarks.
  • Exclusive Discord role & channel. Connect with pros and the team
  • Priority support. Get help when you need it.

And we're planning on a lot more in the coming months.

Pricing is unchanged. If you bought Pro within the past 30 days solely for commercial use or code export and this changes the math for you, drop us a line, and we'll sort it out. If you purchased a Core subscription a while back, you will receive all the benefits of Pro for free.

Look forward to seeing the community taking this forward. As always, come say hi on Discord.

Thanks for being part of the journey!
